I am passionate about yoga and believe that it is for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, flexibility and strength. I adjust my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. Generally I teach Hatha yoga, with some Iyengar and Ashtanga inspired practice, as well as drawing on my knowledge of anatomy and physiology and therapeutic yoga training. The classes are small and one-to-one. This means that I am able to make modifications to suit the individual needs of my students.

I first started practicing yoga about 39 years ago when I was working as a midwife. Over the years I have found it has helped me to remain fit and flexible. It has helped me to recover quickly from back and knee injuries, (from sports such as riding, squash, running and netball). My recovery from a fractured spine was helped by yoga. I find that yoga relaxation techniques and meditation help me to sleep well and to feel energized and positive.

After retiring from a career in the health service, in the course of which I worked as a nurse, midwife, health-visitor, manager and commissioner, I qualified as a yoga teacher. I hold a Yoga Alliance Teaching Diploma (RYT 200), a British Wheel of Yoga Teaching certificate and a therapeutic qualification, 'Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs'.

Special Interests:

With my healthcare background I am interested in anatomy and in the growing evidence of how yoga can improve physical and mental health. I love attending study days and workshops to extend and deepen my knowledge. ,

I practice meditation and incororate mindfulness and meditation into my teaching. Yoga is a moving meditation which helps us to develop mindfulness, settle into our meditation and to deepen our awareness.

I have completed  the York University accredited course, ‘Yoga for healthy lower backs. I use skills learnt on this specialist course in the classes to help anyone who has back problems.

As well as being passionate about yoga, I love the countryside, walking, visiting art galleries, theatre, cooking and sharing food with friends and family, meeting people, and discovering new ideas and places.
